Kapatovo Petit Verdot 2021 2021
A harmonious, attractive, velvety Petit Verdot created by oenologist Ivo Todorov with grapes from the Kapatovo Family Estate's own vineyards in the villages of Zornitsa and Kapatovo, Sandanski municipality. The vines are 15 years old. The grape harvest took place on 27 September 2021. Fermentation lasted 4 weeks in contact with the grape skins. The wine was aged for 13 months in French oak barrels.
Here's what the winery team has to say about the concession of this Petit Verdot:
"After many years dedicated to blends, we decided to develop a series of single varietal wines. We started with classic and well-known varieties - Syrah and Chardonnay. The logical continuation was to try a specific variety known more as part of blends. Petit Verdot 2021 from the Melnik region is an interesting combination of a characteristic French variety with a magnificent Bulgarian terroir."

Kapatovo
Respect for nature and its gifts is what unites the team of gardens and vineyards "Kapatovo". The establishment of the farm began with the purchase of the first lands in 1997 to reach 1,200 acres in 2010. The past years have helped to gain invaluable experience and knowledge about the peculiarities of the local climate, the natural challenges facing the farmer. This leads to "our recipe" for agriculture - investment and human care. The perennials are fully secured with drip irrigation, funds are invested in agricultural machinery, refrigerators, packaging and sorting base, commercial base. The farm in the family estate is developing, following the most important priorities - care for the land and vineyards, the expectations and needs of customers.

Struma Valley
The Struma Valley region covers the Southwestern part of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian part of Macedonia. The climate of the region is specific and is highly influenced by the warm currents from the Mediterranean Sea. The main grape varieties here are the local endemic Shiroka Melnishka vine, Melnik 55 (cross between Shiroka Melnishka vine and the French variety Valdigie), but also the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and others. Due to the dryer climate and the higher temperatures, the wines develop warm southern tones in the aroma, with nuances of ripe fruit and a densely rich body. Of particular interest are the wines from Shiroka Melnik vine, partly due to the fact that the variety is difficult to grow because it ripens in late autumn. Today, the region is the most dynamically developing in Bulgaria, with many new, small, family owned wineries, increasingly focused on the quality and terroir expression of the wines they produce.
