Raats Family Wines Jasper Red Blend 2021
Exceptionally intense and complex on the nose with blackberry, black cherry and bramble in abundance and subtle hints of forest floor, dark chocolate, anise and spicy tobacco. The walk in the forest continues with blue and blackberry dancing on a tight rope with focus and concentration, following through onto a perfectly balanced, fine-grained, velvety palate. The finish lingers with hints of fresh mint, cinnamon and perfume. Complex and structured. А blend of 53% Cabernet Franc; 36% Malbec; 5% Merlot; 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot

Raats Family Wines
Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc. That’s it. Since 2000, founder Bruwer Raats has kept his focus on these two varieties, believing that specialising would lead to success. This belief was not unfounded, as today, Raats Family Wines is regarded as a leader of South Africa’s Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc, receiving consistent local and international accolades. With Gavin Bruwer joining Raats’ side in 2010, the family affair has one shared mission: to consistently produce Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc of outstanding quality from South Africa and to establish these wines as international benchmarks. As the Raats philosophy continues to flourish, new, curated additions have been introduced along the way. This includes the well-received, vineyard-driven B Vintners Vine Exploration Co. range, and the single wine, special bottling of MR De Compostella – an incredibly successful collaboration between Raats himself and fellow winemaker and long-time friend, Mzokona Mvemve. Based in the winemaking capital of Stellenbosch, Bruwer, Mzokona and Gavin’s winemaking criteria is rigorous, and includes the quality of grape, soil, climate, topography and of course the impact of the human hand, which together, embodies the truest meaning of terroir.

Климатът е сравнително топъл с много интензиво слънце до обяд, но има и хладни течения от югоизток, най-вече следобяд от близостта с Атлантическия океан. Каберне Совиньон и Шенин Блан са най-добре изявяващите се сортове от района, като Каберне Совиньонът развива очарователно землисто ухание и минерално усещане на вкус, особено от лози засадени на гранитни почви, а Шенина се получава изключително свеж, изобилен, плодово ароматен и наситен, а и е добре адаптивен, тъй като толерира сушите и горещините, характерни за летата в Стеленбош. Сира, Пти Вердо, Мерло, Шардоне, Совиньон Блан и Ризлинг също даават страхотни вина от този тероар, като специален е Пинотажът, уникален, червен сорт кръстоска между Пино Ноар и Сензо създаден в Южна Африка през 1925 година. Стеленбош е родното място на този сорт и както почвите, така и климатичните и топографски особености са много подходящи за отглеждането му.
