Henri Mounier
By 1858 Henri Mounier was a captain in the merchant navy, but changed his specialty to specialize in wine production. He took on his father-in-law Jean Salmont as cellar manager and Eugène Bellet as his business partner. Together they founded Mounier et Compagnie. The story goes that when Henri Mounier was not satisfied with a wine, he would take the barrel out of the cellar himself. A man for whom quality was no laughing matter and who made a name for himself in the cognac world. In the years 1858-1874, cognac experienced its golden age and conquered Europe. Henri Mounier understood the importance of getting things right: he sought out the best terroirs, paid great attention to distillation, and aged his cognacs in oak barrels. In 1874, his Mignon was bottled in a barrel and in his oak barrels. Henri Mounier specialised in bottled cognac, which was distributed in France and abroad under the brand Henri Mounier & Co. In 1947, the Prince Hubert de Polignac brand was born. This association between a descendant of a famous French family was the first of its kind. The house joins forces with the Unicoop wine group. Cellars are opened in Gensac La Pallue, next to Cognac. In 1858, Henri Mounier, a merchant navy captain, decided to set up his own cognac house called Mounier & Co. He skilfully discovered the most distinctive terroirs, carefully tending the distillation, blending and ageing process in French oak casks. His dream is to capture the 'soul of angels', and the precious eaux-de-vie stored in the Paradis cellar are testament to Mr Mounier's talent. Our cellar master maintains this tradition of perfection in every bottle.
