Staro Oryahovo
Staro Oryahovo Winery is a small family property 30 km south of Varna. The owner, manager and oenologist is Simo Simov, who planted the first vineyards in 2010 and enrolled in a master's degree at UFT Plovdiv, where he qualified in wine production. The vineyards are about 40 km. west of the sea, between the dams Tsonevo and Eleshnitsa, on a southern slope, protected by forest. 7 hectares are planted with white varieties Vratsa Muscat, Alexandria Muscat, Muscat, Traminer, Chardonnay and another 3 hectares with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Pinot Noir. Staro Oryahovo Winery makes aromatic white wines, red with a pronounced fruity character and fresh rosette. They are bottled in small batches and are difficult to find. We are pleased to offer you the wines of Staro Oryahovo. This winery has a future, and Mr. Simov is a man of vision, talent and experimental spirit, and he will still delight us with new harvests. The Black Sea coast is an area where nearly 30% of Bulgarian vineyards are concentrated. The climate, with warm summers and mild winters, is suitable for growing white varieties. Autumn is warm and long, which favours the accumulation of enough sugars to produce fine white semi-dry wines. Over 50% of white grape varieties in Bulgaria are grown here, and the most common are Dimyat, Riesling, Uni Blanc, Muscat Ottonel, Traminer, even Sauvignon Blanc. The wines have a pleasant fruity aroma, rich taste and elegant freshness. The old endemic variety Dimyat, in addition to being suitable for dry, is often used for the production of dessert wines, as well as for fine aromatic distillates.

Pinot Noir is the dominant red wine grape of Burgundy, a challenge for every single vine grower and wine producer. It can be found in Germany (as Spätburgunder), Italy (Pino Nero), Chile, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. The wines show a specific aroma of red berries and cherry depending on the vinification method employed - from fresh red cherries in lighter wines to stewed black cherries in weightier examples, many of them also showing hints of earthy flavours.
