Domaine Lafage
For more than two centuries, Jean-Marc Lafage's family grew grapes in Roussillon, but six generations passed until it was Jean-Marc who stopped selling grapes to the local cooperative and created a domain. He and his oenological wife, Elian, founded Domaine Lafage in 1996, and today the mansion covers about 138 hectares of vineyards in Roussillon, with plots in the Agli, Aspress and Perpignan valleys. Eliane and Jean-Marc specialize in the cultivation of old vineyards, which give a pronounced minerality and concentration to their wines. Together with his wife they have gained experience in South America, the United States (California), South Africa and even Australia. Back in France they started with 36 hectares of their own land, scattered between Perpignan, Canet en Roussillon and Mori and gradually increased their lands. The Agli Valley, famous for the remains of the Cathar castles, which still show the former splendor, is one of the most exciting terroirs in Europe. The region is known mainly for red wines, but white wines should not be underestimated - especially Domaine Lafage's Grenache Blanc.

Grenache (Garnacha) is a red-wine grape grown extensively in France, Spain, Australia and the United States. Grenache is the French name for the grape, while in Spain it is known as Garnacha, and on the island of Sardinia they call it Cannonau. In France it is most commonly found in the classic Southern Rhone Blend ( it is the main grape variety in Chateauneuf-du-Pape) but also plays a main role in one of southern France's signature Rosè wine style in Provence. In Spain, Garnacha is the key constituent in the prestigious wines of Priorat.
