Вега Сицилия
Bodegas Vega Sicilia is a Spanish winery located in Ribera del Duero. It was founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves, a Spanish winemaker trained in Bordeaux, France, who planted not only the typical local Tempranillo, but also Cabernet Sauvignon (almost 25% of the plantations) and Merlot, which to this day are used in the blends. Vega Sicilia has about 100 ha of vineyards, many of which are more than 100 years old and of course with a very low yield - often less than 2500 kg per ha. Apart from the low yields, another unusual fact for Vega Sicilia is its tendency to keep the wines and mature them for a long time until they develop the desired style - sometimes for decades. For example, in 1991 there were two vintages released at the same time - a 1968 and a 1982 vintage, aged for 23 and 9 years, respectively. Unico is the company's flagship wine, a Gran Reserva, which matures for at least 10 years, sometimes even 15, before being released to the market. Since 1982, the winery has been owned by the Alvarez family, who own two more wineries - Alión next to Vega Sicilia for wine production in a more modern style and Pintía in the Toro region.

Cabernet Sauvignon
This is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth - a natural crossing between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. From its origins in Bordeaux, this vine has successfully spread to almost every wine growing country in the world. Cabernet Sauvignon wines always demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, excellent tannic structure and aromas of black berries and spices.
