For this vintage is important to specify that it is completely finished and stopped from distribution from the winery ( generally the quantities initially produced are extremely small, only 600 bottles ). Some of the last bottles available on the market can be found in Seewines. The wine is made by minimum intervention and mechanical use. It is an artisanal, handcrafted product. It has not been filtered or fined, therefore it might contain a noble sediment. It has been aged for 10 months in white, Bulgarian oak ( old and new ). It has been fermented in an open vessel with daily cap management. The fermentation happens in the oak barrels directly and is spontaneous with ambient yeast. The wine from the different barrels is not blended, so every barrel is separately bottled and completely unique and authentic. There will be differences in tasting profiles between the barrels and this is an effect which is sought after by the producers. Many layers of flavors are sensible, blackberries, cassis, morello cherries, dried herbs, fresh walnuts, coffee and salinity. Wine with depth, strong character and concentration. Solid potential for noble, bottle aging. Exceptionally intriguing and scarce, Bulgarian Cabernet Sauvignon.

Villa Kutina

Villa Kutina

This is new, extremely small, family-owned micro winery with visionary approach and style, which made a big impression among our sommeliers. Veselin Georgiev and Lora Todorova, which are the main people behind the project, are devoted solely to these special wines, produced in very small quantities, around 1000 and sometimes even around 500-600 bottles. They practice biodynamic agriculture, never use chemicals or artificial additives, they don’t filter and fine the wines, do not even use sulfites. They let the grapes ferment spontaneously with wild yeast and for the elevage they use white Bulgarian oak. In many cases only stainless steel. They have their own vineyards and part of them are exceptionally old vines of Cabernet Sauvignon. The producers are focused on this variety and its authentic expression from the Karabunar terroir. Another unique element of their wines is the depth and the concentration. Their different Cabernets are multilayered, concentrated, with smooth, solid tannins and freshness. The wines definitely have potential for bottle aging. For us, the sommeliers, it would be very interesting to try these wines after 7, even 10 years. Our opinion is that the wines of Villa Kutina, except the scarcity factor, possess an authentic expression of one intriguing Bulgarian terroir – the Karabunar micro appellation. Also, these are bottles, which are worthed to be kept in your collection, to be able to explore their development in time. Bulgarian wines for connoisseurs!

Thracian valley

Thracian valley

In this region, which includes Southern Bulgaria, the climate is temperate continental protected from northern winds thanks to Stara Planina, with good rain distribution. It includes the central parts of the Thracian lowland and parts of Sakar. Most of the red grape varieties are concentrated in this area. Mavrud, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Muscat, Pamid and others are grown. The climatic conditions of the region favour the production of rich, dense, memorable red wines, especially from the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Mavrud. Good wines from the local variety Mavrud are especially valued for their aroma and taste of small red fruits, spices and herbs.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon

This is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth - a natural crossing between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. From its origins in Bordeaux, this vine has successfully spread to almost every wine growing country in the world. Cabernet Sauvignon wines always demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, excellent tannic structure and aromas of black berries and spices.
