Weingut Wittmann
From 1663, the Wittmann family and their ancestors were grape growers in the town of Westhofen, Rheinhessen. Today, Philipp Wittmann runs the estate, along with his parents and wife. Riesling is mainly grown, traditional for the region around the town of Westhofen with mostly marble-limestone soils. Two types of Pinot are also popular - Blanc and Gris - and Silvaner. Grapes have been grown organically for over 20 years. A lot of manual labor and skills lead only the best grains in the winery. The must is fermented naturally in wooden barrels. The slow fermentation and maturation deep in the cellars, at constantly low temperature and high humidity, preserves the natural aromas. Their best wines bear the names of the plots from which they come.

Регионът на Райнхесен е основен за германската винена индустрия и е дом на почти четвърт от лозовите насаждения в страната. Той е и най-големият по отношение на произведени количества вино. Райнхесен е сравнително топъл и сух регион, предпазен от неблагоприятни климатични влияния от планински вериги като Хунсрюк и Таунус. Повечето от лозята са засадени върху топлите и плодородни почви на долината, които са идеални за отглеждането на зряло и здраво грозде, а с репутация на традиционен източник на изключително качествени вина е прочутата Райнтерасе - участък от стръмни лозя покрай западния бряг на река Рейн около градовете Ниерщайн и Опенхайм. В Райнхесен доминират белите сортове, като водеща роля играе Ризлингът, следван от Мюлер-Тюргау, значими площи от лозята са отредени също така на Силванер, Грауер Бургундер (Пино гри) и Вайсер Бургундер (Пино блан). От червените сортове първенец е Дорнфелдер, с почти двойно повече насаждения от по-познатия и любим на всички Шпетбургундер (Пино ноар).
