Glendronach

The GlenDronach distillery was one of the first licensed distilleries in Scotland, founded in 1826. Four years later it changed hands - it was bought by Walter Scott (from Teaninich). In 1920 it passed into other hands again - this time the buyer was Captain Charles Grant, son of the founder of the Glenfiddich distillery. Until 1960, GlenDronach was under his management, after which it was purchased by William Teacher & Sons. Teacher's expanded the number of cauldrons in GlenDronach from two to four, but stopped production in 1996 until 2002, when it resumed operations. In 2005, the distillery was handed over to Chivas Brothers after Allied Distillers was taken over by Pernod Ricard. Until 2005 GlenDronach uses coal to heat the pots and is one of the last distilleries to switch to steam. In 2008, management passed into the hands of BenRiach Distillery Company Ltd., a company that in 2015 was named the global whiskey distiller of the year at the Icons of Whiskey Awards 2015 - an incredible achievement for a small private independent company. 2016 marked a new change in the company's management and ownership when Brown-Foreman took the helm. For more than 145 years, Brown-Forman Corporation has been responsibly building high-quality alcohol brands. The acquisition includes three exclusive brands of single malt Scotch whiskey in Brown-Forman's growing portfolio: The GlenDronach, BenRiach and Glenglassaugh.
