Macallan

Founded in 1824, Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to receive a legal license to produce spirits. From the very beginning, it has built a reputation as a quality producer of one of the world's leading single malt whiskeys - The Macallan. The distillery was founded by Alexander Reed, a barley producer and, in parallel, a schoolteacher. The original name of the area is "Maghellan", taken from the Gaelic word "magh", which means fertile soil and "Ellan", from the monk St. Philan - who maintained the church that stood on the land of the Macallan Manor until 1400. Traditionally, farmers in the region have made whiskey on their farms for centuries, using their excess barley during the quieter winter months. The Macallan's reputation is built on a product of exceptional quality and distinctive character, based on a set of guidelines, strictly followed to this day and bearing the unique spirit of The Macallan.
