Château Ducru-Beaucaillou
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a mansion in St. Julien, which today is one of the leading 2ème Cru classifications. Ducru Beaucaillou's 75 hectares of vineyards are planted with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. The average age of the vineyards is 35 years, but there are also quite old vineyards. The oldest is the plot of Les Sadons, which was planted in 1918. The heart and soul of Ducru Beaucaillou are the vineyards that are next to the castle. They are about 50 hectares and reach the Gironde River itself. They are covered with coarse gravel and clay under it. Gravel has many advantages: it drains water well, reflects the sun on the grapes, stores heat during the day and releases it at night. This is one of the best terrains in all of Bordeaux. Fineness and elegance are the hallmarks of Ducru-Beaucaillou wine, which is often considered the most typical representative of Saint-Julien. It takes at least 10 years before you open a bottle, and in good harvests, much more.
