Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Initially, the Chateau Pichon Comtesse was part of a large Pichon estate, but in 1850 it split into two parts. The winery is classified as Deuxieme Crus and borders the famous Chateau Latour. The soil is mostly gravel on clay, with an iron-rich subsoil. The vineyards cover 85 ha and are planted with typical Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (45%), Merlot (35%), Cabernet Franc (12%) and Petit Verdot (8%). The share of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend is quite small for the Pauillac region, but makes the wine more tender and sensual. Because of this uncharacteristic of Bordeaux elegance, some even call it feminine.
