Weingut Furst

Known in antiquity as Vitis Alba, the Elbling variety was planted in the Mosel region by the Romans in the 1st century BC. It spread throughout Germany and became one of the most popular varieties of white grapes until the early 20th century, when the advent of Riesling began. Elbling now thrives only in small regions of the Upper Mosel River in Germany and its continuation in Luxembourg. Fürst is a family winery and offers a wide selection of German and French grape varieties on about 12 hectares - near the village of Metzdorf, on the border with Luxembourg and ten kilometers west of Trier. Michael Fürst is a third generation winemaker - his father started bottling in the 70's. Fürst are confident that Elbling will return to German wine culture. They themselves make five wines of this variety, which offers a wonderful variety if you want to relax from Riesling - with a very fresh, lighter and playful character.
