Bellini is much more than a cocktail – it is part of the history of Venice, art, and the Italian way of life.
In 1948, at the legendary Harry’s Bar in Venice, the owner Giuseppe Cipriani created a cocktail that would later travel around the world – the Bellini.
At that time, Cipriani was looking for a way to capture in a glass the aroma of fresh white peaches, which appear only briefly during the summer in the Veneto region. He mixed fresh white peach purée with sparkling Prosecco wine and created a drink with a delicate pink hue.
Legend says that Cipriani named the cocktail after Giovanni Bellini, one of the great Venetian Renaissance painters. The reason was the color of the drink, which reminded him of the delicate pink tones in Bellini’s paintings.
Initially, the Bellini was served only during peach season, but it quickly became a symbol of Harry’s Bar. Regular guests of the bar included figures such as Ernest Hemingway, Orson Welles, and Truman Capote.
Over time, the Cipriani family created the ready-made Bellini Cipriani – an authentic version of the cocktail, produced according to the original recipe with white peach purée and sparkling wine. Thus, the taste of Venetian summer became accessible far beyond the canals of Venice.

The Bellini is one of the few classic cocktails in the world whose name is associated not with a bartender, city, or hotel, but with an artist. This makes it a unique meeting point between wine, gastronomy, and art – something entirely in the spirit of Venice.
And if there is a drink that captures the feeling of summer, sunshine, and carefree afternoons by the sea, it is the Bellini itself.

Bellini Cipriani
In 1931, an idea became a reality, Giuseppe Cipriani opened his Harry's Bar. It is located in Venice, in a small stone building along the canal, right next to St. Mark's Square. Cipriani's secret is not in what can be seen or touched, but in what can be felt. Customers at this place really feel like royalty! The remarkable cocktails and the almost century-old history of its bar have gained such popularity all over the world that in 2001 it received an award from the Italian Ministry of Culture and was declared a "National Landmark".
