Domaine de Montille

Domaine du Montille was established in the 1750s and at that time had a real treasure - Musigny, Bonnes Mares, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 'les Amoureuses' ... in total, 12 hectares of magnificent terroir planted with Pinot Noir in Côte d'Ivoire de Nuit and Côte de Beaune. Unfortunately, most of the vineyards have been sold off due to the family's financial instability. When, in the middle of the 20th century, Hubert Montille decided to stop this and restore viticulture and winemaking, he had only 3 hectares, various plots of Volnay 1er Cru. However, they were enough for Domaine Hubert de Montille to make its mark throughout Burgundy in the 1950s. Etienne and Alix de Monti, Hubert's children, learned about viticulture from an early age. In 1983, Etienne began working, learning from his father, and in 1990 took over vinification. In 1995, he became co-manager and started moving to organic farming. It was at this time that he began to adapt vinifications to his own way of thinking and his own style and philosophy: biodynamic farming, fermentation of whole bunches to add aromas and silky, elegant wines. All the while, he remains true to the vision he learned from his father: authenticity, purity, elegance and balance. In 2003, Alix also returned to her childhood love Volnay. Since 2006, she has been responsible for the white wines, in particular the precious Puligny-Montrachet Cailleret Premier Cru and Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. In the same year, Etienne launched an expansion of the domain with exclusive vineyards and in 2005 added to his own plots a little Clos Vougeot from the Côte de Nuit and a small plot right next to la Tâche in the Vosen-Romane "Les Malconsorts"! Thus, in 2011 the domain now boasts its own 20 hectares of vineyards, of which 75% are Premiers or Grands Crus.
