Plovdiv Jazz Fest 2018

Between 31.10 and 03.11 Plovdiv Jazz Fest will be held, and we will join it with SeeWines wines.

This year, Plovdiv Jazz Fest will be opened by the Brazilian singer and pianist Eliane Elias. The concert under the motto "Evening with Eliane Elias" will include various compositions. Eliane arrives in Bulgaria with her band, part of which is also her husband - the famous bassist Mark Johnson. Grammy's latest Grammy Award for Eliana Elias's career last year - for her Dance of Time project. In April 2018, her CD with Music from Man of La Mancha came out. The project contains interpretations of music from the famous Broadway musical "The man from La Mancha" and reached the first place in different jazz charts.

On November 1, the concerts in the festival program will be two. The evening will be opened by the American singer and pianist Dina Derose, who arrives for Plovdiv Jazz Fest at the invitation of Groove Atelier and will perform a concert featuring Bulgarian musicians. In addition to a great performer, Dina is a prominent lecturer at some of the most prestigious music universities in Europe and the United States, and over the years has collaborated with many of the big names in world jazz.

The second concert on November 1 will present the special project of Theodosii Spassov and Vlatko Stefanovski, created for Plovdiv Jazz Fest. The audience will have the pleasure of hearing the fascinating interpretations of two of the most loved artists handling the musical legacy of the Balkans, mixing it with its innovative ideas and unmatched performances.

The third night of November 2 will be opened with a benefife concert in honor of Beli, green, red - the formation that left a deep trace in the history of Bulgarian jazz. On the stage will be students of White, green, red to honor their teachers and inspirers.

After their performances follows the Dave Holland Quartet concert featuring many jazz artists, saxophonist Chris Potter. Dave Holland has been dedicated to music for over 50 years. His name is known to all jazz fans. He began playing in gang groups such as Miles Davis, Stan Getz and Betty Carter, and in the last half century, the bassist was involved in hundreds of recordings, collaborating with other great names or with his personal music projects. With constant concert performance on all stages in the world, Dave Holland is a multiple Grammy Award winner, and in 2017 he received the "Jazz Master" award, awarded annually by the National Arts Foundation of the United States since 1982.

The culmination of this year's Plovdiv Jazz Fest will be the closing concert on the last night on November 3rd. Then, the fantastic Jan Garbarek will be on stage with his band, including the famous Indian percussionist, Trilok Gurtu. Both artists have a rich history behind them and a true style of play that has long since become a trademark for each of them. With his music, Jan Garbarque not only shows perfection in interpreting it, but also crossing borders without which everything sounds even more influential. This is the occasion for his concerts to welcome the most diverse audience, including fans of different genres, open to what Jan Garbarek has to tell them through his instrument.

All major concerts from the Plovdiv Jazz Fest are starting at 20:00 and will traditionally take place in the House of Culture "Boris Hristov". The event is part of the official program of "Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019".
