Описание на категорията

White wine - If this is your preferred style, then you’re in the right place. Here we will explain how white wine is made, how to choose a good one and we’ll get you to know some of the most renown wine regions for white wine production. You will find an amazing collection of more than 1000 white wine styles that come from all over the winemaking world - from fruity, easy going, fresh wines for fast consumption to full bodied and rich whites. We will let you know if a white wine can age and how to cool it faster if needed.

How the white wine is made?
A wine that is fermented without skin contact is called white wine. That’s the common rule. It is not necessarily made out of white grapes - a white wine can be made also from red grapes ( Blanc de noire) - which is a common practice in Champagne for example. The colour varies between straw-yellow, yellow-green, or yellow-gold. White wines by default we connect with warm seasons - mainly due to their typical freshness and the fact that they are served cold - at temperature below 10C. Opinions on white wine are extremely divisive - some people love it, others swear they only drink red due to their proclaimed love for full-bodied wines. But contrary to their expectations, white wines with a full body and powerful structure are no exception and go fantastically well even with steak.

How to choose a good white wine?
Good wine is a matter of taste, but also of occasion, combination with food (or an aperitif). If we are looking for a cooler or a light aperitif before eating, we need to rely on a fresher style without oak ageing. Most manufacturers offer both styles of white wines - light, everyday, but also heavier and denser that can mature and, like red wines, improve over the years.

In France there are several regions well known for the white wine production. Maybe the most important one is Chablis. If you like Chardonnay wine then you can always count on  one from Chablis. And if you strive for full bodied and oaky white wines then your destination is California and the American style of Chardonnay wine. In case your preference goes to Sauvignon Blanc grape variety the situation gets more complicated. Choosing this type of wine you should be aware if you prefer more fruity and flavoured wine or more grassy and earthy one. In the first scenario your choice is New Zealand and in the second one - we go back to France again but this time the region is Sancerre.

Can white wine mature?
Contrary to expectations, white wine can mature if done in this style. Of course, not all varieties are suitable, but Chardonnay, which has aged in oak barrels, can easily "sprout" 3-4 years. Perhaps the most famous white wines that can mature and persist and improve with age are those of the Rhône Valley.

Can we cool warm white wine with ice?
It is best to consume the wine after it has been tempered - that is, served at the right temperature. However, we often find ourselves in a situation where white wine is not cool enough and of course the first option that comes to mind is to use a few lumps of ice. However, this is very wrong and almost anathema from the sommelier point of view :). The reason is that the wine is stressed by the contact with the ice cubes, which has a negative effect on texture, aromas and taste. Therefore, our advice to you is - if your wine is warm and you need to cool it, pour a little into the glass and drop a little cold water, and in the meantime allow the bottle to cool in ice and water.

How do we choose the wine at Seewines?
Seewines’ Chief Sommelier Blagoi Kuzmansky selects each wine in our portfolio personally, and most of the producers we represent are small, with a very personal attitude to their production and a limited amount.

He has visited most of the cellars himself, he knows the owner or the oenologist, so we safely place our trust in his selection - from small, boutique, handicrafts to larger, but time-tested with a constant quality of production. The world of wine is vast and wide, with an extensive diversity of flavors and varieties. It is no wonder then, that at Seewines we say that you don't have to love wine, but if you love it life becomes so much more colorful.
