Barbaresco Giuseppe Cortese 2001
Giuseppe Cortese is a purely tradionalist winery that ferments in old concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and has been farming the land for generations. Everything about this wine involves time. 70+ year old vines from the heart of one of the greatest crus of Barbaresco, Rabaja and 40 months of aging in old barrels plus 3 years bottle ageing. Only made in the best vintages. Very limited production. Nose of dark plum, dark cherries and roses. Palate delivers black raspberry with pronounced pepperiness, leather, and lots of floral and earth notes. Smooth tannins on the finish is quite bold, with tobacco leaf, bay leaf, dried red fruits, and forest floor. Decanting is recommended.

Nebbiolo
Nebbiolo is the grape variety behind the top-quality red wines of Piedmont in Italy, the most notable of which are Barolo and Barbaresco. Nebbiolo wines are distinguished by their strong tannins, high acidity and distinctive scent – often described as "tar and roses". The name comes from nebbia (fog) which is a common view of the vineyards in autumn. Powerful and intense, Barolo is the most famous and prestigious Nebbiolo-based wine, but it is increasingly rivaled by the slightly more elegant and perfumed wines from Barbaresco to the northeast, which rose to prominence in the late 20th Century.
